Pull Up Your Socks For The International Solitaire Competition, By Microsoft
It has been 25 years since one of the most popular games "Solitaire" was born. It first came with the Windows 3.0 release in 1990 and has been an integrated part of the Windows operating system since. Today, Microsoft is celebrating it with a worldwide co
It all started merely as an assignment or more of a small project for an intern named Wes Cherry in 1989. Microsoft was just beginning to grab the market space and it needed some exciting ideas to make people familiar with its new user interface. The most significant one was the "drag n drop" feature that it wanted everyone to know and love. Thus, the task of developing a game based on this feature alone was assigned. Microsoft held an informal competition among its employees after which it has been made public to compete with the in-house winners. Solitaire is very close to many who grew up with it and most of all, wasted a huge amount of time in school, home and even in the office. It was so popular and insanely crazy for some that in 2006, an employee was fired when his boss found him playing Solitaire instead of working on the project. Thus, there are many tales and legends that we might not even know by now.
Only those who have a Windows operating system or even a Windows phone as well can participate in this competition. It is available for only these two platforms. You do not need to create any account or subscribe or even register for participating in the contest. You can just start playing from the same Solitaire game by starting it from under the Start Menu. It can similarly be played from the default game bundled with your Windows Phone OS. A new plugin has been added that will sync it with a server and authenticate it based on your Windows OS ID. This was intended to be an entertaining idea to popularize the Windows OS, but ultimately ended up being a super time waster. Thus, Microsoft calls it a celebration of 25 years of time wasting. Right now it is not yet confirmed whether it is going to be a prize winning competition or something else but one thing is for sure that the winner is going to get fame and glory.
